Summary: DuoLector is a free app for couples. Use it responsibly. We are not responsible for content shared between users. The service is provided as-is without warranty.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using DuoLector ("the App", "Service") at duolector.com or through any mobile application, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

These Terms apply to all users of the Service, including registered users and visitors.

2. Description of Service

DuoLector is a free web application that provides couples with a private shared space including: synchronized PDF reading, real-time chat, shared diary, collaborative drawing, sealed letters, shared music playlists, and related features. The Service is provided free of charge, supported by voluntary donations.

You must be at least 13 years of age to use DuoLector. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement. If you are between 13 and 18, you represent that you have parental or guardian consent.

You retain ownership of all content you create and share through DuoLector (messages, diary entries, drawings, letters, photos). By using the Service, you grant DuoLector a limited, non-exclusive license to store and transmit your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service.

You are solely responsible for all content you post. You represent that you have all rights necessary to share such content.

The DuoLector name, logo, and visual design are the property of DuoLector's creator. The underlying source code of the app may be viewed in its public GitHub repository but may not be rehosted as a competing service without permission.

All user-generated content remains the property of the user who created it.

8. PDF and Book Content

DuoLector allows users to upload PDF files for personal reading. By uploading a PDF, you represent that you have the legal right to use and share that content within your couple. DuoLector strongly encourages users to only upload books and documents that are in the public domain (e.g., from Project Gutenberg) or for which they hold appropriate licenses. DuoLector is not responsible for copyright infringement by users.

9. Third-Party Services

DuoLector relies on third-party services including Supabase (database and authentication) and Google (optional OAuth login). Your use of these services is also subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies. DuoLector is not responsible for the practices of these third-party providers.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

Important: THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR COMPLETELY SECURE.

DuoLector does not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any content on the Service. Any reliance you place on such information is at your own risk.

11. Limitation of Liability

Important: TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, DUOLECTOR AND ITS CREATOR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF GOODWILL, SERVICE INTERRUPTIONS, COMPUTER DAMAGE, OR SYSTEM FAILURES, EVEN IF DUOLECTOR HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

In no event shall DuoLector's total liability to you for all claims exceed the amount you have paid to DuoLector in the past twelve months (which for free users is zero).

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless DuoLector and its creator from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any third-party rights; or (d) any content you submit, post, or transmit through the Service.

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your account immediately, without prior notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. You may also delete your account at any time by contacting us.

15. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Uruguay, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Uruguay.

DuoLector accepts voluntary donations through Ko-fi. Donations are not required to use the Service and do not grant any additional rights, premium features, or service guarantees. All donations are final and non-refundable.
